Jenna Morris, 2013

My group of paintings were inspired by my time in South Korea on a research grant this last summer. I saw beauty in both the little things and in the entire city while I was there. A magnificent mix of modern and traditional shaped my paintings and led me to fall in love with the city of Seoul. During my time there, I visited a festival for the birth of Buddha, where the lanterns I painted were hung, an ancient palace in the middle of the modern city called Changedeokgung palace, and I also hiked in the mountains where I saw beautiful statues and the oxidizing bridge that I painted. There are many sides to Seoul that I can never hope to represent, but my paintings embody just a few of the amazing experiences that I had there.
